چکیده

The critical properties of the mixed ferro/antiferromagnetic q-state Potts model on the square lattice are investigated using the numerical transfer matrix technique. The transition temperature is found to be substantially lower than previously found for q = 3. It is conjectured that there is no transition for q > 3, in contradiction with previous results.

Antiferromagnetic Potts models on the square lattice.

We study the antiferromagnetic q-state Potts model on the square lattice for q = 3 and q = 4, using the Wang-Swendsen-Koteck y Monte Carlo algorithm and a new nite-size-scaling extrapolation method. For q = 3 we obtain good control up to correlation length 5000; the data are consistent with () = Ae 2 (1 + a 1 e +. . .) as ! 1. For q = 4 the model is disordered even at zero temperature.

Three-state Potts model on a triangular lattice.

We study the phase diagram of the three-state Potts model on a triangular lattice with general interactions (ferro/antiferromagnetic) between nearest neighbor spins. When the interactions along two lattice-vector directions are antiferromagnetic and infinitely strong, this model becomes equivalent to a six-vertex model and exhibits a first-order (KDP) transition from an ordered phase into a cri...

Transfer Matrices and Partition-Function Zeros for Antiferromagnetic Potts Models IV. Chromatic polynomial with cyclic boundary conditions

We study the chromatic polynomial PG(q) for m× n squareand triangular-lattice strips of widths 2 ≤ m ≤ 8 with cyclic boundary conditions. This polynomial gives the zero-temperature limit of the partition function for the antiferromagnetic q-state Potts model defined on the lattice G. We show how to construct the transfer matrix in the Fortuin–Kasteleyn representation for such lattices and obtai...

Potts model on infinite graphs and the limit of chromatic polynomials

Abstract Given an infinite graph G quasi-transitive and amenable with maximum degree ∆, we show that reduced ground state degeneracy per site Wr(G, q) of the q-state antiferromagnetic Potts model at zero temperature on G is analytic in the variable 1/q, whenever |2∆e3/q| < 1. This result proves, in an even stronger formulation, a conjecture originally sketched in [12] and explicitly formulated ...

Absence of Phase Transition for Antiferromagnetic Potts Models via the Dobrushin Uniqueness Theorem

We prove that the q-state Potts antiferromagnet on a lattice of maximum coordination number r exhibits exponential decay of correlations uniformly at all temperatures (including zero temperature) whenever q > 2r. We also prove slightly better bounds for several two-dimensional lattices: square lattice (exponential decay for q ≥ 7), triangular lattice (q ≥ 11), hexagonal lattice (q ≥ 4), and Kag...
